I don’t know if it is too early to decorate for autumn but I’m doing it. I mean there isn’t a rule book in home decorating, is there, that says when a person is to decorate for the upcoming seasons. I always get this itch to change things up around this time of year. There is something about the cooler temperatures of autumn, the coziness of a sweater or jacket, the crunch of fallen leaves under your feet as you take a walk, and the beauty of a big orange pumpkin with a toothy grin glowing on a porch. Those are some things to get excited about. So I love to have my home reflect all of the coziness and beauty of the season.

Here in this picture I have started with a blank slate of an old shipping box, a vintage picnic basket, an old window, a chair, and a lamp. The shipping box is character in itself…the worn patina of the wood is just beautiful. The vintage picnic basket is black and grey plaid. I have more khaki tones in my house but the grey blends just fine. The green chair because I love green. The lamp is black at the base and has a cream shade. The old window has been modified to have a shelf on top and hooks at its base.

To set the scene I added an old black metal lunchbox to match all of the black going on. Then I added a orange pumpkin with leaves attached to the stem and a small orange, green, and khaki plaid pumpkin. All of these items so far coordinate well with each other. On the green chair I added a pillow that is grey & cream striped and a pumpkin patch pillow to add to the festivity of the scene. On top of the window are vintage green books because you know I love green. And finally a cutie, a felted sign that says Jack O’ Lantern in all the colors. There you have it…just a little early decorative scene to inspire you all things autumn.
