Happy Good Friday, Friend. Do you have fun plans for Easter? We will go to church, eat lunch with my side of the family, and then eat dinner with Mr. Handsome’s side of the family, which always turns into a lively event with plenty of laughter and heartwarming stories being shared. It is always a busy day with lots of conversation and full bellies, filled with delicious dishes that we each contribute, making it a true feast for everyone. This year, our oldest has to work part of the day, which is a bit disappointing, but we will see him at church. He is going to play the drums for all three services, and I know he’ll bring a lot of energy to the music, as he always does. Do you sing hymns at your church? When I was growing up, we did, and when Mr. Handsome ministered a congregation, we did, too. But now, at the church we attend, we don’t incorporate them into our worship, which I find a bit disheartening. I miss them dearly, as the hymns hold such a special place in my heart. My family gets to hear “Up from the Grave He Arose,” “I Come to the Garden Alone,” and “He Lives” as I belt them out, usually while I fix dinner, bringing a little piece of that nostalgia back into our home. Sad for them, probably, but at least they can hear some hymns. Ha! Today, I thought I would mix up some sugar cookies, a tradition my mom started with my sister and me many years ago. She would buy us each a cookie cutter for the season, allowing us to express our creativity through delightful shapes. Ours would be saved for later use, and we would use hers to cut out the cookies. When my sister and I got married, we both had lots of cookie cutters to make sugar cookies with, which have now become a beloved tradition that we hope to pass down to our children, creating new memories just as our mother did with us.
